How can you help?

Parents.Learning

Parents.Learning (previously known as the Education Advisory Committe) has met since 1987, the year Hillbrook was founded. It consists of interested parents and members of the School Leadership Team (SLT). It is recognised as having strategic input to support the education of the Hillbrook community.

Parents.Learning will deliver a series of forums each year on topics relevant to adolescent growth and development. It is our hope that Parents.Learning will empower parents through expert knowledge and collective wisdom, which ultimately provides opportunities for you to lead the way with optimism and strength as you nurture your young people.

Parents.Connect

Parents.Connect is where one, preferably two parents from each Home Class acts as a liaison person with the other parents in their son or daughter’s Home Class. Such a connection enables a greater sense of belonging among the parents, and in particular the parents in your child's Home Class. Where two parents are involved, ideally we would have one who has a son and the other who has a daughter in the class.

We are wanting to nurture a combination of support and trust among the parents of the Home Class and the Home Class Teacher.

This role is somewhat different to similar ones in primary school, taking into consideration the different stage of development and maturity of adolescence. This role is NOT intended to take any responsibility away from students. It is to strengthen a relationship that we know from research can be important in our students’ learning.

Volunteering in one of the Hillbrook Shops

Our Kitchen/Cafe and Uniform Shop teams would value your support helping out when you can. It is a wonderful way to build friendships and connect with the community.

Events, Functions and Working Bees

Parent events at Hillbrook are varied - from EAC Parent Information Evenings to social events such as Hillbrook Under the Stars (HUTS). Some events will be run by a committee of parents (such as HUTS) and others will involve helping the EAC on the night with meeting and greeting and providing you with an opportunity to meet and build relationships with other Hillbrook families.

Career Advice / Mentoring / Work Experience / Community Action Program (CAP)

Our parent community is filled with a wealth of experience with the unique potential to provide active careers insight for our students. We have a number of ways you can get involved.

Senior Student Mentor Program (SELFIE)

The Year 11 and 12 Senior Student Mentor Program is a new Hillbrook initiative. We are looking for parents who can mentor students as they head towards their career choices. Your participation in this program can be a combination of face 2 face and Zoom sessions.

Careers Assistance

Year 9 and 10 English and Science Extension "Aspire" Mentors

We have two elective Aspire project based learning subjects for students who wish to extend their studies in English and Science. Being able to introduce our students to mentors who are working in these fields - writers and scientists - enriches their experience and can help shape their future career choices.

Community Action Program (CAP)

The Community Action Program (CAP) is a requirement of the Year 11 Personal and Spiritual Development (PSD) program. It challenges students to ‘turn outwards’, by volunteering 20 hours of their own time to help a charitable or a Not for Profit group. CAP encourages students to give their energies to the wider community and their efforts contribute to making a positive difference in the lives of others. Importantly this program provides students with the opportunity for personal growth.

If you work for, or are associated with, a charitible organisation and you would be willing to participate in this program, we would really love to hear from you.

Project Active / Sport

Project Active provides a broad range of extracurricular activities for students and is compulsory for Years 7-9. It provides an opportunity for students to try a wide variety of sports and activities which may encourage them to join a club and pursue a new hobby/interest. Students choose a new activity each Semester and Project Active usually runs for 6 weeks.
